A Weekend Getaway to North Georgia Mountains: Couple’s Cabin Trip

May 27, 2020 Living, Travel

After the shelter in place orders were lifted in Georgia, a weekend getaway was definitely high on my list of things to do. I don’t see myself flying anywhere any time soon, so getting creative with staycations and road trips are a must. When my friend Jasmine reached out to me about a couple’s cabin trip idea, I was 100% on board!

Blue Ridge, Georgia

We decided to go to Blue Ridge, Georgia, which is a popular mountain getaway in North Georgia. It is 1.5 hour drive from the Atlanta area, and I truly can’t even describe how beautiful the views are. Keep reading for a recap, and to find out how to make it the ultimate couple’s getaway.

Where to Stay

Having a cabin all to ourselves was really the only option for us. We found our cabin on Airbnb, check it out here. It had all of the amenities we needed. One thing that was important for us, was each couple having their own room, with at least a queen size bed option. You would be surprised how many cabins have bunk beds instead. We also wanted a cabin that was aesthetically pleasing, had nice views, a grill and a Jacuzzi. Blue Ridge is a very small town, so location isn’t an issue. This cabin checked all of the boxes.

Where to Eat/Drink

Blue Ridge has plenty of restaurants to choose from, but for me the best part is relaxing in the cabin and enjoying home cooked meals together. Our trip consisted of pretty much all foodies. I knew without a doubt, that we would be cooking up all of our meals.

Plan Ahead

What helped us with meals, was creating a menu and purchasing everything before arriving to the cabin. We had a group chat and discussed what everyone was willing and able to cook for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can designate one person to buy everything and chip in as a group. When it was time to cook, everyone knew their role. For drinks, make it BYOB. You’ll share, and there will be plenty.

Create a Fine Dining Experience

It’s been a while for an actual date night out for all of us, so we decided to create a VIBE. First night we had the option for filet mignon or salmon for our mains, with a side of basalmic glazed Brussel sprouts/ asparagus and potatoes. To add to the experience, I set the table with candles and made floral arrangements. Be sure to keep the drinks flowing, and have music playing in the background.

In contrast, we also had a bomb BBQ the following day. Everyone chipped in, and it was a great time.

What to Do

Go on an Adventure

Before arriving, we looked into what adventures Blue Ridge had to offer. Kayaking at Blue Ridge Mountain Kayaking seemed like a great option. It was a 6 mile kayak down Toccoa River. Four out of six of us have never kayaked before, but we were all excited about it. Once we got there, the instructor informed us that the dam was just opened, so the water was high, cold and fast. We decided to still go for it. Let’s just say the moment I hit the water, I was SHOOK. Thank God, I am alive to tell you about it. aah

Play Games

Our cabin provided LOTS of game options, but don’t forget to bring your favorites. After dinner on our first night, we had a fun couple’s sip n paint activity (supplies here). As a group, we selected a picture and all painted it. It was a fun activity that made us work together lol. It was cool to see what everyone came up with.

This getaway was what we all needed! As shelter in place orders are being lifted across the country, remember to always keep it safe. I hope this getaway inspires your next mini trip!
