Happy Half Birthday, Ezra! See What He’s Up to

July 31, 2019 Living, Motherhood

Yes, a half birthday, it’s definitely a thing! So of course, we had to celebrate my baby Ezra turning 6 months old. And when I say celebrate, I mean enjoying some solids, a bottle of milk, and going to sleep. Okay, talk about living the life! These past 6 months have been truly awesome. Ezra just fits right into our busy house bringing all the chill and peaceful vibes. We were seriously blessed with the coolest baby, who ONLY cries if he is hungry or sleepy. So with him hitting this milestone, I thought this would be a great time to share an update on all things Ezra.

Growth & Development

Ezra has been off the charts on weight since birth. We haven’t been to the pediatrician since his 4 month visit, at which he weighed 16 lb 15 oz. With our home scale he is now 18.4 lbs, and currently wearing 9 month size clothes. As far as length he was 24.5in at his 4 month visit.

No more staying put, Ezra is rolling over and he just started sitting on his own. Y’all, I even think he said ‘mama’ the other day! My heart stopped *gasps.* He loves laying on his tummy and kicking his legs like he’s moving, which is the cutest thing! lol. No, actually I think his two little teeth are even cuter. *that mom– everything is cute, okay*

Eating

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you can introduce solids to infants once they’ve doubled their birth weight, which is typically at 4-6 months old. I had no clue you could start solids at 4 months. For months 4 and 5 we stuck with just oatmeal for his night feeds. We waited until he was 23 weeks to start on veggies, and so far he likes sweet potatoes. Right now we’re giving him one-ingredient veggies; we’ve tried sweet potatoes and carrots. Once he has tried and tolerated them, we’ll move on to the fun stuff and get creative.

I plan on pureeing his food, but we’ll see how long that lasts. To make things easier, Infantino Squeeze Pouches that you fill with your own puree will be very helpful, especially on the go. With Eden we made her food, but we also gave her Earth’s Best Organic. As far as water, we started giving him sips here and there especially on those hot days outside. I listed our current feeding schedule below:

  • 6am: 6 oz bottle of breast milk
  • 10am: 1 serving of veggie or fruit followed by 3 oz bottle breast milk
  • 3pm: 6 oz bottle of breast milk
  • 7pm: 6 oz bottle of breast milk
  • 11pm: oatmeal mixed with breast milk (last feed until morning)

Sleeping

Once your baby can put themselves to sleep, and sleep through the night you’ve made it! ha. We’re half way there. Ezra is sleeping from 11pm to 6am in a bassinet in our bedroom. What we will be working on now is transitioning him to his own room, and having him fall asleep on his own. GOALS.

We used the Cry It Out method with Eden and it worked, but it’s not fun at. all. But once they get the hang of it, its a game changer! He doesn’t have a strict nap schedule. For naps, I just pay attention to his cues and put him down when he’s sleepy. My off days consist of a lot of errands; he’s always a trooper just falling asleep as he pleases, no fuss.

What Ezra is Loving

Ezra is all smiles, all of the time. He loves to look at people and be in on the action by just observing. He loves when you are in his face smiling at him. His favorite game right now is peek-a-boo, and playing with his feet. When it comes to toys, he’s into anything that he can bang and put in his mouth. I listed below some products that make our day fun and/or easier!

A half birthday just makes you realized that you’ll soon have a toddler. Ezra will be crawling soon, and before you know it he’s already turning one! I mean, I was just sharing my birth story with you all. But as they say, the days are long, but the years are short.
