Living Intentionally

Balance It Out With Jasmine Nikol!

March 29, 2019 Be Inspired

Welcome to my new blog series called Balance It Out. As women, we wear so many different hats, and it’s amazing how we get it all done. You have to be intentional with your time, and from my own experience, some days the scales are not balanced AT ALL! The key is knowing what your definition of balance looks like, and putting time where it matters in every changing season. Having some sort of balance is a constant work in progress. Ultimately, we all want to avoid burn out, and the feeling of being overworked!

Balance It Out

This series will be gaining insight from busy women as they excel in their careers, manage their side hustles, and pour into their passion projects–while still making family a priority! Whether single, married, with kids or without, they are sharing how they do it! For me, its always nice to get a peak into how other women balance work and life, hopefully we can all gain something from them!

Jasmine is a licensed master cosmetologist who owns and operates Jasmine Nikol Beauty Boutique. She provides services for women as well as provides her own line of professional hair and beauty products. With a love for simplistic beauty, Jasmine also runs The Curl Shop which is a hand made natural and organic hair care line for kids. She is also be a podcast host in her second season, and a lifestyle blogger.

Can you tell us a little about yourself? My name is Jasmine, and I am a mother of two (toddler and tween)! I am a salon owner and serial entrepreneur. I am engaged to my best friend, and we are set to wed in October. I seek and love simplistic beauty in all things.

What’s your morning routine?
In the morning, I see my oldest daughter, Disaya, off to school,  and I get my toddler, Karli, ready for daycare. We eat breakfast, sometimes on the go, and head out. I’ve been trying to eat more healthy, so I started a routine breakfast of yogurt and blueberries.

What apps or tools do you use to plan out your day?
I struggle with utilizing devices or apps. I typically use the old-faithful memory bank. I would love to discover different tools for my daily life because my brain never settles, and I’m always looking for ways to be more efficient. For my businesses, I utilize Planoly which helps with social media and posting.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I work A LOT, so my day is pretty routine, and I thank God for my partner because he helps tremendously. Sometimes, I leave the house at 9am and don’t return home until after 11 pm! I add an early morning workout routine when I can, but I need to make more time for that as well.

What does balance at home look like?
Balance at home has everything to do with everyone holding their weight. We make a conscious effort to help each other. I’m thankful for the eight-year gap between my girls because Disaya plays a huge role in helping with Karli, and she is self-sufficient. Balance means comfort, too. I breeze through my day knowing I have support in making sure my responsibilities are handled.

What does rest look like for you?
What’s that?! Rest, for me, is getting away, turning off my phone, and enjoying isolation. I‘m excited to partake on an annual momcation!

How do you stay motivated?
My children keep me motivated;  cliche, but true. Whenever I feel discouraged or overwhelmed, I always remind myself that I want to be a mother they can be proud of.

What is one thing that you always make time for?
I always make time for TV! I’m  obsessed with binge-watching Netflix. Since I can’t binge-watch at home for obvious reasons, I put a small smart TV in my salon suite!

What does self-care mean to you?
Self-care is doing whatever makes me feel good. This definition changes depending on my mood, so I simply focus on doing things that feel good at the moment. Self-care should never feel like a task.

How has being intentional helped you achieve balance?
I also associate balance with peace and clarity. Being intentional with my time and cautious of my surroundings have allowed me to have an abundance of balance.
