Happy New Year!! So happy to say that the year is finally 2021. We made it, and that is something to celebrate. I just love the new year. Getting a fresh start to try again, do it better, or just start is totally my jam. For 2020, I set out to read at least one book per month. That didn’t happen, but I did read some awesome books that I want to share with you all, plus share what my IG friends are reading too! Below you will find my 2020 reads, my top 3 favorite books from 2020, my current read, and what everyone is reading this month.
My top 3 reads from 2020
My top three reads for 2020 were I Will Teach You to be Rich, The Storyteller’s Secret, and The Vanishing. Each book found me at the right time.
- I started last January with now, my favorite personal finance book, I Will Teach You to be Rich. If you watch my IG stories, you have already heard how this book has helped me. I was always taught to save my money, and I’m actually really good at that. But I wasn’t taught how to make my money work for me. After reading this book I was confident on how to make my money do more. Then I became personal finance obsessed, and found podcasts, blogs, and IGs that help to keep me motivated.
- I absolutely loved The Storyteller’s Secret. This book was a cultural exploration through multiple generations. It follows an Indian family from the present day viewpoint of Jaya, the granddaughter, to her grandmother Amisha’s youth. One family secret could change everything, and Jaya was determined to figure it out. This story was beautiful and tragic all at the same time. I got all the feels with this one.
- The Vanishing was probably a 2020’s fan favorite, but it seriously was a good book. The book had my mouth stuck open like WOW at so many scenes. Sheesh! The story follows the Vignes twins. Two identical sisters raised in the south in a Black community. After running away together at 16, things take a different turn for them as adults. One sister raises her daughter in the black community they grew up in, and the other sister secretly passes for white. No one knows that she is passing for white, not even her husband. This book takes you to unexpected places.

My Current Read
I started Untamed last October and set it down. I’m restarting it because I hear its worth the read, and I absolutely loved Glennon’s first book Love Warrior. My reading goal for 2021 is to again, read at least one book per month. We shall see, no pressure. Happy reading 🙂
